This Dussehra, SaPa is delighted to invite you all to participate in a fun, FREE music contest - open to all agesand styles of music! Here's a chance for you to make music a bigger part of your day, and share your workwith a community that roots for you. Whether you're a singer or an instrumentalist, here's your chance to shine.

Age Groups

  • Under 10
  • 10-17
  • 18+

Contest Categories

  • Indian Vocal (Solo) - Devotional: Includes Carnatic music, bhajans, and others [open to all age groups]
  • Indian Vocal (Solo) - Film: Sing songs from Bollywood or Indian regional movies [open to all age groups]
  • Western Vocal (Solo): Open to all age groups
  • Instrumental (Solo): Play any musical instrument of your choice [open to all age groups]
  • Group Performances: Form a band with any number of musicians; here you can go ahead and mix agegroups. Enjoy this fun chance to showcase a family performance, or make music with your friends!

Round 1: Submit entries online

  • Submit your entry in the form of a YouTube video, Vimeo link, or Google Drive/Dropbox uploadwith the necessary permissions given
  • Deadline: October 15, 2021

Round 2: Online performance

  • A team of judges from SaPa will shortlist individuals and groups in all categories and announce the winners. Please watch this space for announcements.
  • All shortlisted candidates will receive a discounted link to one self-paced course of their choice (conductedby Dr. L Subramaniam, Kavita Krishnamurti, Usha Uthup, Anup Jalota, and more).
  • Winners will receive free access to any self-paced course of their choice.
  • One grand prize winner (1 solo, 1 group category) will receive a free scholarship to learn any discipline of theirchoice at SaPa (for one quarter)

IMPORTANT RULES AND GUIDELINES

General

  • Duration of the performance should not exceed 5 minutes
  • Recording must be a new one made specifically for this competition, recordings from previousperformances will not be accepted
  • Recording must be clear and in standard audio/video formats only (mp3/wav/mp4/mov)
  • Kindly refrain from adding any effects to the voice recording
  • If language is found abusive, the entry will be disqualified
  • Recording must be uploaded on Google Drive/SoundCloud/Dropbox and link must be copied in the spaceprovided in the form (please make sure to give permission to access the file)

Category-specific rules

Indian Vocal Solo - Devotional

  • Carnatic and Hindustani classical music, devarnamas, bhavageete, bhajans, semi-classical songs all fall in this category
  • The only accompaniment allowed is tanpura (manual/electronic)

Indian Vocal Solo - Film

  • Indian film songs fall in this category
  • Karaoke tracks are permitted as backing music
  • Only other accompaniment allowed is tanpura (manual/electronic)

Western Vocal Solo

  • It can be western classical/pop/rock/folk/film and any other international music
  • Self-accompaniment (with a guitar/piano) is permitted

Instrumental Solo

  • Any instrument – melodic or percussive, and any style of music is permitted
  • Only accompaniment allowed is tanpura (manual/electronic)
  • A track may be used to play over, but is not mandatory

Group Performance

  • A team of minimum 2 persons and a maximum of 6 persons is allowed
  • It can be Indian/Western music
  • Vocals/instruments are allowed
  • If applying in this category, please mention only group leader’s name in the Name Field. Do not apply multiple times under names of all team members
