Join the 100,000 Deeds Challenge
A summer project in collaboration with the Model United Nations - MUN Impact
About the 100K deeds challenge
As we enter our summer holidays, we have an exciting project that teachers, students, and all changemakers can participate in. We have joined hands with the Model United Nations (MUN Impact) headquarters in New York to launch a summer challenge that encourages everyone to work towards achieving the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
History
In 2017, SaPa launched a pilot 10,000 Deeds campaign in partnership with UNICEF to encourage young students to take steps towards the SDGs in their families, schools, and communities. The campaign was kicked off by co-founders Bindu and Ambi Subramaniam with a music video by The Thayir Sadam Project.
Schools across Bangalore adopted the program, where students were given a pamphlet with examples of simple ways to serve the various SDGs. Students were each given a “Deed card” to fill out and return, describing their deed and the relevant SDG.
Now, we're joining hands with the MUN Impact headquarters in New York, and building on the creative inspiration to expand the campaign to schools around the world - setting a goal of 100,000 deeds worldwide! Every deed counts, and the deeds help build a wave of momentum towards achieving the SDGs.
About the summer challenge
On April 15th, we are conducting a virtual open house session, led by SaPa founders Bindu and Ambi Subramaniam, the team from MUN Impact in New York, and student representatives from MUN in India. We will introduce the 100,000 deeds campaign, and your task for this summer.
Your summer project:
1. Join our virtual open house and help us kick off the summer challenge
2. Do at least one deed per day, fill up the virtual deed card (which you will receive after the open house), and submit it at the end of every day
At the end of the 30-day challenge, you will be invited to join our virtual celebrations - where we have a fun musical performance, share our tally of deeds throughout the summer, and end with a note by the MUN Impact headquarters and our founders.
Why we're doing this
Over the last year, schooling has been virtual. Among its many drawbacks is the lack of leadership opportunities available to students. By encouraging every child to take small steps towards a massive impact, we are giving them a chance to take ownership and work consistently towards something bigger than themselves.
Today, the idea of eliminating world hunger might be overwhelming. But if one child donates a meal everyday, they are making a difference to one hungry person. If ten children donate meals everyday, that impact becomes a little bigger. And in the long run, when everyone takes small steps together, this goal becomes more achievable.
Our goal is to complete 100,000 deeds by the end of 2021. This summer, let's put a big dent in that number!
What's next
We invite you to join our virtual open house on April 15th, 2021. You can sign up as a school or as an individual student. Some benefits of signing up as a school include:
1. A feature on the MUN Impact website
2. A certificate from SaPa and MUN Impact, acknowledging your support as a partner educator in this challenge
We invite you all to join us in this summer of making a difference.
